Attended by almost all children from the age of 3, pre-primary education is, along with elementary schools, “primary” education. It is under the responsibility of the Ministry of National Education.
Elementary education has a duration of 5 years. At the end of the elementary cycle, children automatically access the next level of education of Network+ Certification training.
Lower secondary education provided in colleges
Colleague training is compulsory and common to all students. At the end of the course (class of 3 rd ), pupils take the Diplôme national du brevet (DNB), an exam that does not condition access to upper secondary education. Depending on the school report and the student’s project, he can be directed to the second class in general and technological high school, a second professional class.
Upper secondary education is provided in general technical education high schools or a vocational high school
Schooling takes place over three years and includes three training paths: the general path (which prepares for the pursuit of long higher education), the technological path (which prepares in priority for short higher education studies, of a technological nature), and the professional path (which mainly leads to working life, but also gives access to higher education).
The end of upper secondary education is sanctioned by obtaining a national diploma: the baccalaureate. This opens access to higher education, it constitutes the first university degree.
